Clover POS Pricing: Hardware, Software Fees, and Rates (2026)
Every price on this page comes from clover.com itself, observed September 3, 2026 โ plus the two things Clover's pricing pages won't tell you: the rate it doesn't publish, and why who sells you Clover matters as much as the hardware.
The 30-second answer
Clover pricing has three layers. Hardware runs from $199 (the Go card reader) to $1,899 (Station Duo), or $16โ$185/month on a 36-month subscription. Software runs $0 to $89.95/month depending on plan. Processing is published at 2.6% + 10ยข down to 2.3% + 10ยข for card-present transactions, depending on your software tier โ keyed and online rates are priced separately and not published.
The part most buyers miss: Clover is sold by Clover Direct, major banks, and more than 3,000 other financial-institution partners โ and Clover itself says contract terms and termination fees vary by provider. Thesame device can carry very different processing rates and contract terms depending on who you buy it from. Payment USA sells Clover on interchange-plus pricing with no long-term contracts and no cancellation fees.
What You're Actually Buying With Clover
Clover is the cloud point-of-sale and payments brand of Fiserv โ First Data acquired Clover in December 2012, and Fiserv absorbed First Data in July 2019. It's sold direct at clover.com and through banks and thousands of independent resellers, with devices ranging from a pocket card reader to a dual-screen countertop station.
Full disclosure up front: Payment USA sells Clover. It's one of the terminal brands we deploy alongside Dejavoo and PAX, and we deploy it because the hardware is genuinely good โ purpose-built devices with built-in receipt printers, cameras and scanners, and WiFi, ethernet, and 4G/LTE connectivity. The software covers inventory, employee shifts and permissions, loyalty, gift cards, online ordering, invoicing, and a Virtual Terminal, with an app market on top. Clover also publishes flat card-present rates โ "all cards, including AMEX and rewards cards, feature the same low rates," in its own words โ and every plan comes with 24/7 support.
So this isn't a takedown. It's the pricing walkthrough we'd want if we were the ones buying โ including the fine print. If you're still deciding between device families, our merchant terminals guide covers the broader hardware landscape.

Clover Software Plans and Monthly Fees
The software plan you pick sets both your monthly fee and your published card-present processing rate โ a higher subscription buys a lower rate. From Clover's own device pages, observed September 3, 2026:
| Plan | Software fee | Card-present rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $0/mo | as low as 2.6% + 10ยข | Device only โ the entry plan shown on the Flex and Go pages. |
| Essentials | $29.95/mo | as low as 2.5% + 10ยข | Adds software features over Starter. |
| Services Growth / Retail Growth | $84.95/mo | as low as 2.3% + 10ยข | The top tier for service and retail businesses. |
| Restaurant Growth | $89.95/mo | as low as 2.3% + 10ยข | The top tier for restaurants and food service. |

Clover Credit Card Processing Fees: What's Published, and What Isn't
What Clover publishes is straightforward: flat card-present rates of2.6% + 10ยข on Starter,2.5% + 10ยข on Essentials, and2.3% + 10ยข on the Growth plans, applied to every card type โ the pricing hub leads with "pay as little as 2.3% + 10ยข per transaction."
Here's the honest gap. Clover's own FAQ explains that rates "come in pairs" โ an in-person rate and "a slightly higher 'typed-in' fee" for transactions where the card isn't present, like an online sale or phone order. ButClover publishes no actual keyed or card-not-present rate anywhere on clover.com as of September 3, 2026. The FAQ offers only illustrative examples, and the comparison tables on Clover's own per-industry pricing pages render with empty fee cells. You'll see review sites confidently quote a keyed rate; Clover itself doesn't.
What that means for a buyer: if any part of your volume is keyed, invoiced, or online โ and for most businesses some of it is โ a real chunk of your processing cost isn't on the pricing page. You'll learn your actual keyed rate from whoever sells you the account. So ask for it in writing, and ask how every rate compares to interchange โ our processing fees comparison walks through how flat-rate pricing like this stacks up against interchange-plus across all the major models.
The Contract Terms Behind Clover's Prices
None of this is hidden โ it's in Clover's own pricing FAQ and shop-page footnotes (observed September 3, 2026). But it's the part of the pricing page nobody reads:
Hardware subscriptions are non-cancelable
Clover's pricing FAQ states plainly: "Subscriptions are non-cancelable and ineligible for refunds." You can pay the subscription off at any time or break it via a buyout or upgrade โ but you can't simply cancel a $180/month Station Duo subscription because business slowed down. Multiply the monthly price by 36 before you choose the subscription route.
Subscriptions auto-extend unless you give 30 days' notice
At the end of a subscription term you can purchase the equipment or return it โ but if you do nothing, "your subscription term will be extended at the same monthly charge." Avoiding the month-to-month extension requires 30 days' notice. Put the end date on your calendar the day you sign.
The $450 promo requires a 3-year contract
Clover's current online offer โ a $450 statement credit when you buy a Station, Mini, or Flex โ is for new merchants only and, per the shop-page footnote, "Requires a 3-year contract," plus credit approval, a $25+ batch within 30 days, and $10,000+ processed in your first four billing cycles. A statement credit that costs you a 3-year commitment isn't free money; it's a term sheet.
Who You Buy Clover From Matters as Much as the Hardware
This is the fact buried in Clover's own FAQ that reframes the whole purchase. Asked about termination fees, Clover answers that contract terms and any termination fees "can vary based on your service provider" โ whether that's Clover Direct, partners like Citi, PNC, and Wells Fargo, or "more than 3,000 other financial institution partners that also sell Clover solutions in the US." Clover even acknowledges price variation across channels: its FAQ includes "I saw Clover for a different price. Can you match it?"
Read that as a buyer and the conclusion is unavoidable: Clover isn't one offer. The hardware and software are the same everywhere, but your processing rates, your contract length, and what it costs to leave are set by whichever of those thousands of providers signs you. Choosing "Clover" is really choosing a provider โ the device just comes with it.
That's exactly why we sell it the way we do.Payment USA deploys Clover devices on interchange-plus pricing, with no long-term contracts and no cancellation fees โ the same published terms we put on our comparison page next to Square, Stripe, Toast, and Clover Direct. Interchange-plus separates the card network's actual cost from our markup, so you see both numbers on every statement instead of one blended flat rate. Same Clover, different terms โ and you get them in writing before you sign.
Clover Reviews: What the Ratings Actually Say
As of September 2026, Clover holds a 2.0/5 TrustScore on Trustpilot across 2,184 reviews โ a polarized split, with 53% one-star and 42% five-star. On the Better Business Bureau, Clover is listed under its parent company Fiserv, whose profile shows a1.01/5 customer-review average across 121 reviews, with 396 complaints closed in the last three years.
The pattern in the low reviews is consistent: withheld or delayed funds, long support holds, unexpected fees, and difficulty canceling โ including billing that continues after cancellation attempts. The pattern in the high reviews is just as consistent: people like the devices and the day-to-day software.
Two honest caveats. First, BBB figures for Clover are entangled with Fiserv as a whole, which is a much bigger company than the Clover product line. Second โ and this connects to everything above โ experiences vary by reseller. Fund holds, surprise fees, and cancellation friction are largely provider-side issues, and Clover is sold by thousands of providers. The complaints are less a verdict on the hardware than a list of what to nail down, in writing, with whoever sells you the account.
Clover Pricing Questions, Answered
How much does Clover POS cost?+
Three layers, added together. Hardware: $199 (Go card reader) up to $1,899 (Station Duo) bought outright, or $16โ$185/month on a 36-month subscription, per clover.com as of September 2026. Software: $0 (Starter) to $89.95/month (Restaurant Growth). Processing: published card-present rates from 2.6% + 10ยข down to 2.3% + 10ยข depending on your software tier โ with keyed and online rates priced separately and not published. A single mid-size setup โ say a Mini on Essentials โ runs $849 up front plus $29.95/month before processing costs.
Does Clover have a monthly fee?+
Usually, yes. The Starter software plan is $0/month, but Essentials is $29.95/month, Services and Retail Growth are $84.95/month, and Restaurant Growth is $89.95/month. If you take hardware on subscription instead of buying it, that adds its own monthly charge ($16โ$185 depending on the device), and the Kitchen Display System carries $25/month per device on top of its purchase price. Clover's own FAQ says merchants "can expect to pay a monthly software fee plus processing rates per transaction."
What credit card processing fees does Clover charge?+
Clover publishes card-present rates by software tier: as low as 2.6% + 10ยข on Starter, 2.5% + 10ยข on Essentials, and 2.3% + 10ยข on the Growth plans (observed September 2026). For keyed-in, online, and phone-order transactions, Clover says rates run higher but publishes no actual number โ its FAQ gives only illustrative examples. And because Clover is sold through thousands of banks and resellers, the rate you're actually offered depends on who sells it to you. Get every rate in writing before you sign, whoever you buy from.
Can I get Clover through a different processor?+
Yes โ and that choice matters more than most buyers realize. Clover is sold by Clover Direct, bank partners like Citi, PNC, and Wells Fargo, and more than 3,000 other financial-institution partners in the US. The hardware and software are the same; your processing rates, contract terms, and termination fees are set by the provider you sign with. Payment USA sells Clover devices on interchange-plus pricing with no long-term contracts and no cancellation fees โ the same terms we publish for every account.
Can I cancel a Clover subscription?+
Not in the ordinary sense. Clover's pricing FAQ says subscriptions are "non-cancelable and ineligible for refunds" โ your exits are paying the subscription off, a buyout, or an upgrade. Separately, termination fees on the processing agreement "can vary based on your service provider," so what canceling actually costs depends on who sold you the account. Ask for both numbers โ hardware payoff and early termination โ in writing before you sign anything.
