TSYS Merchant Solutions: Who Owns It Now, and Where Your Account Went
The short version: TSYS Merchant Solutions no longer exists as a live brand. TSYS merged into Global Payments in 2019, and the former TSYS business was sold again โ to FIS โ in January 2026. Here's the map.
The 30-second answer
"TSYS Merchant Solutions" is a brand that has been absorbed twice. TSYS (Total System Services) merged into Global Payments in September 2019 in a roughly $21.5 billion merger of equals. Then, on January 12, 2026, Global Payments sold the former TSYS issuer business to FIS at a $13.5 billion enterprise value โ it's now marketed as "FIS Total Issuing Solutions," and tsys.com redirects to fisglobal.com.
If you're a merchant, the part that matters is the split: the merchant-services side stayed with Global Payments โ accounts descended from TSYS Merchant Solutions live there, and your statement may say Global Payments or Genius โ while only the issuer side (card processing for banks) went to FIS. The old tsysmerchantsolutions.com website is dead, and no TSYS-branded merchant product exists anymore.
The full timeline and a guide to finding where your account lives now are below.
The TSYS Timeline: Two Deals, One Vanished Brand
Most of the confusion around TSYS comes from collapsing two separate transactions into one. Here's what actually happened, in order:
Global Payments and TSYS announce a merger of equals
An all-stock deal valuing TSYS (Total System Services of Columbus, GA) at roughly $21.5 billion. TSYS shareholders received 0.8101 Global Payments shares per TSYS share, ending up with about 48% of the combined company โ which kept the Global Payments name.
The merger completes โ TSYS becomes part of Global Payments
TSYS was delisted from the NYSE, and the combined company served roughly 3.5 million merchant locations and 1,300+ financial institutions across more than 100 countries at close. Inside Global Payments, the TSYS business became the Issuer Solutions segment โ the side that processes cards for banks, not merchants.
Global Payments sells the former TSYS business to FIS
On the same day Global Payments completed its acquisition of Worldpay, it divested its Issuer Solutions business โ the former TSYS โ to FIS at a $13.5 billion enterprise value. FIS now markets those offerings as "FIS Total Issuing Solutions." Global Payments kept the merchant-facing side of the house.
The TSYS name has left the merchant world entirely
tsys.com now redirects to fisglobal.com. The old tsysmerchantsolutions.com site is dead โ the domain resolves but serves nothing. And globalpayments.com carries no TSYS-branded merchant product; searches surface only 2019 merger-era press coverage.
Where Your TSYS Merchant Account Lives Now
The January 2026 deal split the old TSYS world in two, and only one half concerns merchants. FIS bought the issuer side โ the business that processes cards on behalf of banks. If you're a business owner who accepts cards, that half isn't yours. The merchant-services side stayed with Global Payments, which today sells it under the Genius point-of-sale brand alongside sibling brands rather than under any TSYS name.
So if your merchant account descends from TSYS Merchant Solutions, the company behind it is Global Payments โ and the fastest way to confirm is your most recent processing statement. The name, support number, and online portal printed there reflect whoever services your account today; for accounts from this lineage, expect Global Payments or Genius branding. Old TSYS phone numbers and web addresses are a dead end: tsys.com now belongs to FIS's issuer business, and tsysmerchantsolutions.com doesn't respond at all.
One sibling worth knowing about: Heartland is Global Payments' small-business POS and payments brand โ a sibling of the former TSYS merchant business under the same parent, not a TSYS successor.
What Global Payments Offers Merchants Today
Credit where due: this is one of the largest payment companies on earth, and the scale is real. Global Payments self-reports 100+ countries, 73 billion transactions per year, and 5 million merchant accounts โ and after closing the Worldpay acquisition in January 2026, the combined company reports 6+ million merchant locations and roughly $3.7 trillion in annual payment volume. Its flagship merchant product is Genius, an all-in-one point-of-sale system sold in Essentials, Advanced, and Complete tiers.
It also does something rare for a processor this size: it publishes entry pricing. As of September 2026, globalpayments.com lists Genius software at$0/month (Essentials), $42/month (Advanced), and $129/month (Complete), each paired with a processing rate of 2.6% + $0.10 on certain in-person card transactions. The fine print matters, though โ by the page's own footnotes, the monthly price covers the software subscription only (interchange, assessments, and other third-party charges are extra), the 2.6% + $0.10 applies to certain in-person transactions while online and card-not-present rates "may vary" and are not published, and all pricing is "subject to underwriting." Contract length and early-termination fees aren't disclosed on the pricing page either. In short: the number you actually get is negotiated, not listed.

The Global Payments Review Picture โ Read It Carefully
Two well-known review platforms tell what looks like two different stories about Global Payments, and the honest move is to report both without blending them.
On the BBB, Global Payments, Inc. of Atlanta holds an A+ letter grade and has been accredited since 2021 โ but its customer reviews average 1.02 out of 5 stars across 103 reviews (as of September 2026). Those aren't contradictory: the letter grade measures how a company handles complaints, while the star rating reflects customer satisfaction. The recurring themes in the reviews are surprise fees, rates creeping up over time, and difficulty canceling.
On Trustpilot, the same company scores a 4.7 out of 5 across 4,528 reviews (as of September 2026) โ but the reviews on that profile predominantly reference Global Payments' UK operation, so it shouldn't be read as a US-merchant satisfaction score. Even there, the negative reviews echo familiar themes: unexpected fees and a lack of pricing transparency.
Neither number alone is the truth. Together they say: a very large company, experiences that vary widely by market and channel, and fee complaints that show up on both platforms.
What This Churn Means for Merchants
A merger, a rebrand, or a change of ownership is precisely when the terms of a merchant account tend to change quietly. Repricing notices arrive as statement inserts or fine-print updates, new line items appear under unfamiliar names, and the support team you knew gets reorganized. None of that is unique to Global Payments โ it's what consolidation does โ but if your account has been passed from TSYS Merchant Solutions to Global Payments to whatever brand your statement carries now, it has lived through a lot of opportunities for its pricing to drift. Read every repricing notice, and compare this month's effective rate to what you were actually quoted.
This is a real difference in how Payment USA operates. We use transparent interchange-plus pricing, so you see exactly what the card networks charge and exactly what we add โ a model where hiding fees is structurally impossible. And there are no long-term contracts and no cancellation fees: you stay because it works, not because you're locked in. If a decade of industry consolidation has left you unsure what you're even paying, a free statement review will name every line on it.
TSYS Questions, Answered
Is TSYS still in business?+
The business lines still exist, but "TSYS" is no longer a standalone company or an active brand. TSYS merged into Global Payments in September 2019, and in January 2026 Global Payments sold that former TSYS issuer-processing business to FIS, which now markets it as FIS Total Issuing Solutions. There is no company called TSYS to do business with today, and tsys.com redirects to fisglobal.com.
Who owns TSYS now?+
It depends which part you mean, which is exactly why the question is confusing. The issuer-processing business โ the historic TSYS core that processes cards for banks โ belongs to FIS as of January 12, 2026, along with the TSYS name and the tsys.com domain. The merchant-services side stayed with Global Payments, which sells it under brands like Genius, Heartland, and Worldpay rather than under the TSYS name.
What happened to TSYS Merchant Solutions?+
TSYS Merchant Solutions โ the old Omaha-based direct merchant-acquiring arm โ no longer exists as an active brand. Its website, tsysmerchantsolutions.com, is dead, and no TSYS-branded merchant product appears anywhere on globalpayments.com. The merchant business it belonged to lives inside Global Payments today. If you still have a merchant account from that lineage, Global Payments is the company behind it.
I have a TSYS merchant account โ who do I contact?+
Start with your most recent processing statement rather than an old TSYS phone number or web address. The name, support line, and portal printed on the statement reflect whoever services your account today โ for accounts descended from TSYS Merchant Solutions, that is the Global Payments side of the split, and your statement may carry Global Payments or Genius branding. The FIS side of the deal only concerns banks that issue cards, not merchant accounts.
Is TSYS the same as Global Payments?+
Not exactly, and the distinction matters as of 2026. From 2019 through early 2026, TSYS was part of Global Payments. But in January 2026 Global Payments sold the former TSYS business to FIS โ so today the TSYS name and issuer business sit with FIS, while Global Payments kept the merchant-processing side. Saying "TSYS is Global Payments" or "TSYS is FIS" flat-out are both wrong; each company holds a different piece.
